Position Purpose:
This position will be responsible for handling the accounting, tax and controllership functions and also serve as the Company Secretary of the Company. The individual will be responsible for the Accounting, Taxation, and Compliance functions of the GIPL.
Key Job Activities:
Key Activities
1. Financial Accounting, Taxation & Controllership:
• Day to day accounting – revenue and expense accounting, approval of payments accounts receivable, accounts payable, maintaining statutory books of accounts, payroll processing in co-ordination with accounting and payroll service providers.
• Preparation and finalization of financial statements, coordinating statutory audit and interacting with statutory auditors
• Design and implement internal control systems, processes, policies and procedures for the accounting, procurement and finance functions
• Handling all taxation matters – Income Tax, VAT, Service Tax, tax management/ planning and ensuring compliance (including filing of returns) with all direct and indirect tax requirements, coordinating with the Company’s tax advisors and tax authorities
• Providing support to GATX’s global offices for US reporting purposes
• Support the execution of leasing transactions through support in transaction structuring from accounting and tax perspective, review of commercial arrangements ensuring compliance with contractual provisions
2. Company Secretary:
• Serve as the Company Secretary and ensure compliance with all Companies Act and other statutory requirements
• Ensuring timely conduct of Board meetings, AGM, preparation and maintenance of agenda and minutes of meeting, filing of various documents/ reports with ROC and other statutory agencies
• Developing internal policies and procedures for GIPL taking into accounting GATX’s global practices and Indian regulatory requirements and ensuring compliance with those policies
3. Financial Planning & Analysis:
• Building a robust management information system (MIS) framework including management of budgets and forecasts
• Preparation of budgets and MIS reports including monthly cash flow forecasts, financial performance reports, variance reports and key performance indicators in a timely manner
• Contracting and commercial negotiations with vendors
4. Banking Relationships:
• Working Capital management
• Maintaining day to day relationships with the Company’s banks for cash management purposes
• Working with GATX Treasury for developing alternative short term and long term funding options for the Company
5. Others:
• Coordinating with GATX insurance Group to ensure fulfillment of insurance need for the Company
• Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to building the operational team, administration, business development activities and special projects.
Scope of Work: The incumbent will lead the set up of the accounting, finance and secretarial function/ capabilities for GATX India. This position will deal with matters issues covering setting up of accounting policies and procedures, internal control, statutory audits, tax management, compliance with Companies Act and other statutory requirements, day to day banking relationships, monthly MIS and ensure compliance with GATX internal policies. The position has significant operational impact affecting accounting and controllership and compliance with statutory requirements of GIPL. The position has significant decision making authority affecting accounting, tax and secretarial matters.
Internally, the incumbent will work extensively with the Commercial and Operations teams of GIPL as well as Controllership, Tax, Treasury, Legal/Secretarial, Compliance and Insurance functions of GATX Corporation. The individual will work closely with the Managing Director and Country Head India Country Head to ensure that suitable processes, procedures and internal controls are developed and implemented for GIPL and its businesses is conducted in a manner compliant with various statutory regulations. Over time he/ she will build and lead a team in the above functional areas. As the position deals with sensitive and strategic issues, leadership, quality, judgment and sound decision making ability is essential. Establishing effective working relationships with the managers and staff of business/functional groups in GATX’s other locations is essential for effective performance.
Externally, the incumbent is expected to develop and maintain relationships across management levels within multiple service providers and regulatory authorities e.g. auditors, tax consultants, bankers, Registrar of Companies, tax authorities, Reserve Bank of India, with whom GIPL and or GATX will need to interact for regulatory, compliance and policy matters. A strong functional expertise, commercial orientation and ability to work across government and private organizations is essential.

Incumbents should be a qualified Chartered Accountant and Company Secretary with an experience of 7-10 years with a manufacturing or services company in India with specific emphasis on accounting, audit, controllership, corporate tax and secretarial functions. The incumbent should have strong knowledge of Indian GAAP, Income Tax and Companies Act, 1956 and a working knowledge of US GAAP. Knowledge/ experience of working in an ERP environment and / or a start-up situation will be an added advantage.
